Rishi Rich

This British Indian music supremo was born in Croydon, England and is now recently working in Mumbai.

Rishi Rich

This week for Tune In Tuesdays, we discuss our evergreen artist. Rishi has been one of the pioneer music producers of the Indian R&B fusion music genre that emerged in the mid-2000’s. Though he started his musical journey in the Asian Underground scene, he became internationally popular for his Hindi remixes and Bhangra tracks quickly. Rishi formed a conjugated group called “The Rishi Rich Project” in the year of 2003 with established solo performers Juggy D & Jay Sean. This trio released many chartbusters in an emerging genre that was prevalent worldwide.

Rishi Rich Project produced the debut single “Dance with You” (Nachna Tere Naal) on September 8, 2003, featuring Jay Sean (English) and Juggy D (Punjabi). It was pronounced as an “Asian Underground” song set in a London neighborhood. A fresh sound with equally creative visuals quickly became a sensation in the Desi scene.  The song was ranked at No.12 on the UK Singles Charts and No.2 on the Dutch Top 40. UK Asian Music Awards awarded the song as “Best Single R&B” in 2003. This world popular song was the first successful single for Jay Sean and later added to his debut album.

When Rishi left 2point9 Records, the trio maestro group had a break in 2007. After the separation, all three musicians started to pursue solo projects where Jay Sean obtained international acclaim on his own. After an 8 year separation, “Freak” is the latest song which reunited the team.  The fans loved this reunion and hope to see more from these three.
