Mindy Kaling Brings Her ‘A’ Game With Ocean’s 8


Vera Mindy Chokalingam aka Mindy Kaling has earned fame as a pioneer because she is one of the very few Indian-American women in America who has found success on television as an actor, comedian, writer and producer. Kaling, who played Kelly Kapoor in The Office was nominated for Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series in 2010.
The author of two New York Times best-selling memoirs, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? and Why Not Me? Mindy is now in news for two upcoming movies, A Wrinkle in Time and Ocean’s 8.
While A Wrinkle in Time, directed by Ava DuVernay, is a science fantasy adventure based on the Madeleine L’Engle’s novel of the same name and is scheduled to be released by Walt Disney Pictures on March 9, 2018 in Real D 3D and IMAX 3D, Ocean’s 8, directed by Gary Ross, is a heist comedy and a sequel of the Ocean’s Trilogy. It will be released on June 8, 2018, by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Mindy will appear as Amita in Ocean’s 8 (which has “one of the most incredible casts ever put together”, as Seth Meyers says) alongside Awkwafina, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson and Rihanna!
Mindy was born to parents, Avu Chokalingam, who is Tamil and mother who was Bengali in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She shared her bittersweet experience with famed actors like Rihanna and Sandra Bullock while shooting for the female-driven caper movie, Ocean’s 8.
The outspoken actor said in an interview, “With that group of women, I’ve never felt so unfamous in my life. Like, I thought I was pretty cool. I have my own show. People think I’m Sandra Bullock’s assistant and they’re like, ‘Get out of the way! We need to bring Sandra her matcha tea.’ I’m like, ‘I’m in a scene with her. I’m not her assistant!’
Mindy is a self-made celebrity and she knows how to take the world in her stride. She declares, “Then I’m like, ‘OK! Whatever. I’ll give her her matcha tea. Might as well.”
