Designs By Kamni Rock New York Fashion Week
Few have the courage to follow a profession, which is their true calling, and even fewer have the courage to take the risk of switching from one profession to another to pursue one’s dream. Kamni C. Verma did it and today she is touching great heights in the American fashion industry.
Kamni worked for three years with a Big Four Accounting Firm after completing her graduation from Hofstra University. She had already earned a degree in Accounting along with a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) license, before going for another. But her undying passion for jewelry designing led her to earn a Graduate Diamonds degree (GD) from Gemological Institute of America (GIA).
And how did this tryst with diamond jewelry begin? This Desi girl, who is the head of Verma Group’s New York-based diamond purchasing program today, started off as a humble buyer of GIA certified diamonds and fine jewelry for a retail store.
It was here that she earned the necessary experience and gradually began to understand the difference between custom jewelry based on her client’s specifications, preferences and factory produced jewelry. Soon, she started getting offers from her friends and family to design customized jewelry and Kamni realized that she thoroughly enjoyed tending to individual taste and that each new client’s vision and story excited her.
Kamni switched gears and has never looked back. She founded Designs By Kamni, which focuses on personalized and exceptionally crafted engagement rings, wedding bands, and high-end luxury diamond jewelry including solitaire earrings, cocktail rings, and chainrings. Kamni’s business has grown dramatically in the past few years – today she evaluates 20 to 30 diamonds every day and has designed over 350 custom engagement rings.
She says, “My goal is to make the engagement ring process itself enjoyable, educational, and memorable. I truly enjoy the unique aspect each client has and the special attention to detail with each special piece.”
The appearance of Designs By Kamni in New York Fashion Week last week is the latest feather in her cap. It was her first appearance in the fashion week as a fine jewelry designer. Her 2018 diamond jewelry collection showcased bridal rings, necklaces, bracelets, and statement right-hand rings.
The NYFW success has added wind to the sail of her brand and Kamni is super-excited.
