Top 5 Iconic Jaya Bachchan Movies To Celebrate Her 70th Birthday

It’s the birthday of Bollywood’s very own Guddi. Jaya Bachchan, one of the most gifted actresses of yesteryear Bollywood, has always left an everlasting imprint on the audience through her vivacious and brilliant performances in the movies. From serious and intense to girly and chirpy, she aced every role with finesse.

As Jaya Bachchan turns 70 today, we remember five of her iconic performances, which are and will always be cherished by her fans.

Guddi (1971)

In her first ever movie as an adult, Jaya Bachchan played the role of a 14-year-old girl who was smitten by the Bollywood star Dharmendra. This movie was a big hit, and she bagged the award for the Best Actress for her astounding performance. She became an overnight sensation after this movie.

Koshish (1972)

The best actor is the one who can display emotions without words. In this movie, Jaya Bachchan succeeded in moving the audience without speaking a word. Paired opposite Sanjeev Kumar, they played the role of a deaf and mute couple, fighting the odds of life and creating a place for themselves in the stereotypical society.

Abhimaan (1973)

This story resonates even with the millennials as we can still connect with Jaya Bachchan’s role as Uma and the personal dilemma of a woman when she has to choose between her career and family and dealing with success and its consequences.

Kora Kagaz (1974)

Anil Ganguly’s marital drama was a humane story of love and understanding that marriage is ultimately the relationship between the husband and the wife and there is no space for any unsolicited interference from a third party, whoever that may be. Jaya Bachchan’s role in the movie received much acclaim.

Silsila (1981)

Considered as one of the iconic romantic movies of Bollywood, Silsila, (also touted to be the real-life portrayal of the then-scandalous Amitabh-Jaya-Rekha love triangle) which is still talked about today; is still rated by many as the best movie by Yash Chopra.

Happy Birthday, Jaya Mam! You will always be one of our favorites!
