Time and again, Bollywood has given us a chance to witness its magic and one such moment was at the latest Fashion walk organized by the Mijwan Welfare Society. Who isn’t familiar with Manish Malhotra’s fabulous designs? But his latest work at 2018 Mijwan Fashion Show in collaboration with the NGO Mijwan has blown us away. #TheWalkOfMijwan has indeed become a much-awaited celebration of fashion and philanthropy for the past nine years.
Mijwan Welfare Society is an NGO started by Kaifi Azmi and is currently run by Shabana Azmi, the veteran Bollywood actress. The NGO focuses on women empowerment and education of the girl child, apart from providing means of sustainable living to the poor and the needy. The 2018 fashion show was organized to display the fashion label associated with this NGO. The message of the show was such a simple and powerful to which Ranbir Kapoor added,“Be the Change you wish to see in the world. You can do it and your time starts now”.
Apart from the positive message, we also witnessed Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor as showstoppers wearing ensembles from Manish Malhotra’s collection. Deepika looked as beautiful as ever in her elaborate lehenga choli with heavy embroidery, while Ranbir stole our hearts with his simple yet elegant black bandhgala. This ex-couple has come together on several occasions and projects to give amazing performances in movies, like Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani, Tamasha, etc. and we were definitely glad to see their on-screen chemistry live on the ramp.
This year’s show for Summer 2018 focused on the exquisite art of chikankari – the traditional embroidery style from Lucknow, India; believed to have been introduced by Nur Jehan, the wife of the Mughal emperor Jahangir.
The show was a huge success with many esteemed celebrities like Neetu Kapoor, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi, Yami Gautam, Asha Parekh, Waheeda Rehman, and others gracing it with their presence.
