Marvel Studios Is Talking About It’s First Ever Pakistani Muslim Superhero – Ms. Marvel

2 min

Marvel movies have some awesome surprises in store and the President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, has affirmed that there have been discussions about bringing Ms. Marvel to the big screen. For those who don’t know who Ms. Marvel is, here is what you need to know.MARVEL STUDIOS

Ms. Marvel a.k.a Kamala Khan is the (fictional) Pakistani-American girl from New Jersey, who struggles to survive her teenage life in America. She is a fan-favorite character from Marvel Comics and was first introduced in the year 2014 as a consequence of the release of the Inhumans’ Terrigen Mists. Eventually, she acquired some amazing shape-shifting powers and could stretch her limbs to unbelievable lengths as well as grow or shrink in size. She discovers her extraordinary gifts after a strange turn of events at her high school party, and it only adds to her pre-existing miseries – Teenager? Muslim? Or Inhuman? MS. MARVEL

Sana Amanat, director & editor at Marvel Comics, is credited to have come up with the idea of Kamala Khan or Ms. Marvel who is, most likely, the next newcomer to the superhero genre.BLACK PANTHER

With Avengers 4 all set to be released in 2019 and with the success of Black Panther, Marvel Studios seems to be ready to explore further the possibility of more diverse superheroes. Never before has there been a mainstream Muslim superhero, and with roots to Pakistan, this is surely the character we are all looking out for. MS. MARVEL

Movies like this will serve to re-set the role of Pakistanis as seen in popular culture and show them as something beyond supporting characters. Besides, demonstrating a woman superhero likewise helps in changing the story around female characters in minority groups who don’t get the consideration they deserve – particularly in Pakistan where they are frequently put on the back burner.MS. MARVEL

By all means, Ms. Marvel is a distant leap from the classic comic book superheroes. Though nothing is definite as of now, and Feige’s comment is little too vague to read between the lines, we still hope that this project of Marvel studios takes wings soon. We will wait and watch!!
