Taking on the initiative to provide a platform to South Asian artists in America, with the unique combination of meet and greet opportunities, talk shows and music jamming sessions; four organizations, Asian Variety Show (AVS), DissDash, Starrlife Entertainment, and Yuvraj Entertainment have come together to cater to the Desi audience’s need for a touch of home.
They kicked off the holiday season on November 27th at the Delhi Arts Gallery (in the Fuller Building), with Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost, featuring ARKO, the Indian music composer, singer, and songwriter, who talked about his journey and shared his insights on the world of Bollywood music.

With food and drinks sponsored by Queens Bully, Bira91, Pondicheri, and Sufi Wines; and ARKO donning the hat of the perfect entertainer, it was a true blue artistic delight.

Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost was the first ever attempt to bring a slice of Mumbai to New York. Best known for his recent success with ‘Nazm Namz’ from Bareilly Ki Barfi, which saw him being nominated for 3 major categories at the 63rd Filmfare Awards – Best Singer, Best Lyricist, & Best Music Composer; ARKO’s melody has been on point since his inception in Bollywood, with superhits like “Allah Waariyan” (Yaariyan), “Aaj Phir Tumpe” (Hate Story 2), “Saathi Rey” from Kapoor and Sons, “Daariya” (Baar Baar Dekho), and “Tere Saang Yaara” (Rustom).

Raju Sethi, CEO, AVS TV, which has been leading the way to provide top quality entertainment to millions of South Asian viewers hungry for Bollywood entertainment in America, since 1987, said, “This was an intimate and informal meet and greet and we hope to take gradually make this into a much bigger platform for South Asian artists.”
Sujit Tiwari, CEO, Yuvraj Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, a full-scale talent management firm, said, “I was really happy when this was proposed to me, and this is something really unique as it will be a great platform for artists who want to come to the US, especially New York.”

CEO of Starrlife Entertainment, a record label dedicated to bringing new and creative music by young and talented South Asian artists from across North America; Raja Starr said, “With this event, a lot of people came to know ARKO. They love his music, but they did not know the person behind them. This platform will give such artists more exposure.”
Founder and CEO of DissDash, which offers cutting-edge editorial content that gives a voice to South Asians across the globe; Sonia Nagpal said, “This is our first dost from Mumbai that is here, and we are going to bring many more and hopefully continue this tradition.”

The event was attended by the who’s who of the industry including Bollywood actor Jugal Hansraj and many more.
