Why Is She Cool: This 15-year-old literally blew Katy Perry’s socks off with her beautiful rendition of the song ‘Almost Is Never Enough’ by Ariana Grande. Alyssa Raghunandan, better known as Raghu, is the Indo-Guyanese singer from Orlando, Florida who wowed the judges in the audition of American Idol, Season 16. She reached the Top 24 but was eliminated after that.
What’s Next: She has auditioned for the next season of American Idol, and we will have to wait till March to find out if she makes it.
Cool Fun Fact: Raghu had starred in the production of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical “In the Heights,” as Nina Rosario.

Why Is He Cool: Indian-origin, Singapore-born Sashi Cheliah won the title of MasterChef Australia 2018 and 250,000 Australian dollars. Cheliah, whose roots are in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, served as a prison guard at Adelaide, Australia. Before this, he served as a police officer in Singapore for 12 years. He started cooking only in 2012, but he had always been passionate about it.
What’s Next: He has launched a pop-up in Melbourne called Gaja by Sashi, which will have Indian and South-East Asian food. His bigger plan, however, is to travel around Australia with pop-ups in different places.
Cool Fun Fact: He is the first contestant of MasterChef Australia to have scored 93 points out of 100, the highest ever, in a finale.
47. GARIMA ARORA

Why Is She Cool: Garima Arora is the first ever Indian female chef to win a Michelin star for her restaurant GAA in Bangkok, Thailand. Her voyage as a chef formally began when she was 21, and in fact, she was working as a journalist before that. As a Punjabi, food has always been a big part of her life and self-expression. Her artsy and delicious blend of Indian and Thai food earned her the distinction in the Michelin Guide Bangkok, Phuket and Phang-Nga 2019. Her restaurant GAA is one of the 27 Michelin-featured eateries in Bangkok and Phuket which are now documented in the new guide. One famous dish on her tasting menu unites flame broiled unripe jackfruit, custom-made pickles, and Indian roti. The theme for the 2018 Met Gala was “heavenly bodies,” Gurung made a statement by dressing women from diverse backgrounds in gowns reinterpreted by religious themes.
