Kumail Nanjiani Joins Marvel Cinematic Universe With “The Eternals”

Kumail Nanjiani South Asian Actors

The latest actor to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is the effortlessly hilarious Pakistani American actor we all love, Kumail Nanjiani!

Nanjiani has been cast in the upcoming film based on the comic book “The Eternals.”

Slated to release on November 6th, 2020, “The Eternals” also stars Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Lia McHugh, and Don Lee.

The upcoming film is set to be directed by Chloé Zhao, a significant change as Zhao is the first woman of color to direct an MCU film.

There is still not too much information released about the film and who will take on which roles but it is a race of humanoids created to defend the earth. They are a team of powered individuals with unique skills (quite like the Gods and Goddesses of Greek Mythology). Thanos, the greatest villain in the MCU is considered to be a member of this race, his younger brother Eros (also goes by Starfox) is an Eternal.

The film was announced at the San Diego Comic Con weekend recently, along with other MCU projects. A packed audience gave the team a warm welcome. Many of the stars have taken to social media to share their joy about being a part of the MCU.

The MCU panel also announced the next Thor movie, “Thor Love and Thunder,” which will feature Natalie Portman as the female Thor; an origin film for Black Widow, a new television show starring Hawkeye, the film “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness,” the film “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” a new television show starring Loki and many more!

The next 2 years are sure packed with new content from Marvel!

For Kumail Nanjiani, this isn’t the first time he’s been a part of an action fantasy film. The comedian, actor, and writer was recently in “Men in Black International” as the voice of the alien Pawny. Though the film didn’t quite live up to the expectations of the franchise, Nanjiani’s Pawny was most definitely the best part of the film!

This will be the first time that a South Asian will be playing a leading superhero in the MCU.

As of now the few South Asians that have been featured, were all supporting side characters such as Deadpool’s cab-driving friend Dopinder, played by Karan Soni.

We have no doubt this Academy Award-nominated star is going to bring his A-game to “The Eternals” and break stereotypes with this unique role. Here’s to wishing the entire team lots of luck!
