As the movie “Mission Mangal” nears it’s release date, August 15th, the promotions are in full flow and with the famous female star cast of the movie – the sound of women empowerment is resounding.
The latest video highlighting the women scientists of India’s space program is making all the right noises about the abilities of every woman. Check it out right here:
The film’s female cast is surely powering its story with pivotal roles. In the film, Vidya Balan will be seen essaying the role of the project director while Akshay Kumar plays mission director. Apart from them, Sonakshi Sinha plays the scientist in charge of propulsion control. Taapsee Pannu essays the person in charge of navigation and communication. South Indian star Nithya’s role is to take charge of the satellite design, while Kirti Kulhari plays the person in charge of Program Autonomy.
“It’s based on true events but the characters are not specific to particular scientists. There are different posts and characters assigned for each post. I haven’t met the people who were part of the mission, but since I belong to a science background — I have completed my engineering — I am familiar with the terms and theories that have been used in the film,” Pannu told IANS.
In reality as well, it were the women associated with the mission who played an instrumental role in India’s Mars Orbiter Mission. Ritu Karidhal and Nandini Harinath were the deputy operations director of the Mars mission, served as deputy operations director. Karidhal is a Master’s degree holder in Aerospace Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru.
Another important member was Anuradha TK, a Geosat Programme Director at the ISRO Satellite Centre.
