First Look With Neha – Netflix Movie “Home Stories”

Do you ever get the feeling that we are living through history and someday there will be a movie made about it? Well, that ‘someday’ is already here. Made during this lockdown, about the lockdown and by the people in lockdown, “Home Stories” is the new Netflix movie on YouTube and one you don’t want to miss as per #FirstLookWithNeha!
“Home Stories” is an anthology of four short stories by different directors exploring four very different experiences during the nationwide lockdown in India which was announced on March 24, 2020. Without enough time to plan or prepare, most people in the country got stuck wherever they were and had to make the most of the situation. “Home Stories” takes us through four such distinct accounts and we can all relate to them in some way or another.
The making of these short stories wasn’t an easy feat. To assemble a remote crew (writing, directing, producing, casting, editing, directing, costume and much more), and to coordinate with the entire cast and crew over video calls, takes a lot of precise organizational skills. The entire team of “Home Stories” deserves applause for pulling this off so flawlessly.
The fictional stories depicted in this movie revolve around four plots – a man dealing with anxiety and borderline paranoia, a one-night-stand couple forced to quarantine together, a delivery man who is working through the lockdown, and a couple willing to get married online so that they can be together. All four stories touch upon the struggles people have been facing during quarantine, regardless of which part of the world you live in.
Whether it’s dealing with the fear of COVID-19, being stuck in a house with someone you don’t care for much, interacting with people while maintaining social distancing, or not being able to meet your loved ones – “Home Stories” has something for everyone, something we can all relate to.
Directors Tanvi Gandhi, Anubhuti Kashyap, Ashwin Laxmi Narayan, and Sahirr Sethhi have set the bar high for remote filmmaking in the future. The cast includes Arjun Mathur, Saba Azad, and Imaaduddin Shah (real-life couple), Tanmay Dhanania, Apoorva Arora, and Veer Rajwant Singh. They have each done a great job in creating the vision that was directed to them over video meetings, no doubt with the help of other people in their household. It was also nice to see other familiar faces in cameo appearances – Anant Mahadevan, Mithila Palkar, and Rakesh Bedi. (Fun fact: Bedi’s wife in the movie is played by his wife in real life, Aradhana Bedi who is not an actor herself.)
“Home Stories” has all the good feels we need right now during this bizarre time which seems to get crazier by the day. If you’re looking for some feel-good entertainment and want a fresh take on quarantine, do watch this one. The best part? It’s on YouTube so it’s free and available to all 🙂

Consultant by day and professional dancer on weekends, Neha loves going to the movies and has a not-so-secret crush on Hrithik Roshan!
