First Look With Neha – “Bulbbul” On Netflix

Check out the latest scary movie on Netflix, “Bulbbul” on First Look With Neha! Read on to know what to expect from Anushka Sharma’s latest production.
“Bulbbul” is the story of a child bride who is married off to a man two or three decades older than her. Growing up with her brother-in-law Satya (Avinash Tiwary) who is about the same age as her, Bulbbul (Tripti Dimri) lives a carefree life as long as she has Satya close by. The dynamic between the family members appears odd from the start and gets more complex as time goes by. The family’s dark secrets and darker personalities surface when Bulbbul’s husband Indranil (Rahul Bose) becomes aware of her fondness for Satya and lashes out in jealousy.
Produced by Anushka Sharma, written and directed by Anvika Dutt, “Bulbbul” is the new Netflix movie set in late 19th-century British India. Although categorized in the horror genre, the movie is more than just a ‘horror’ story; it revolves around the story of young Bulbbul with innocence in her eyes who grows up to become a fierce and confident thakurain (landlady).
Tripti Dimri shines in the movie, showing us different flavors of Bulbbul’s personality, ranging from innocent and timid to bold and fearless. It is easy to take Dimri’s acting like that of a confident veteran rather than a relative newcomer in the industry.
Rahul Bose fits perfectly in his role as the stern head of the house. The rest of the main cast includes Avinash Tiwary, Paoli Dam who plays Binodini, and Parambrata Chattopadhyay who plays Dr. Sudip. Chattopadhyay is exceptional in his supporting yet significant role and makes you develop an instant liking towards his character.
With good direction and a strong storyline, “Bulbbul” will grab your interest right from the start. Given the movie is set in ancient remote Bengal, the authenticity could have been enhanced by having the actors speak in a Bengali accent. The movie’s average CGI is easy to notice given filmmakers these days are willing to spend notable amounts on graphics. Setting aside the few quirks, “Bulbbul” is a good watch and one of the better Indian horror movies in recent times.
