Indian-American Mala Adiga Named US First Lady Dr. Jill Biden’s Policy Director

Mala Adiga

President-Elect Joe Biden has been carefully crafting a diverse group of leaders to help him unite America. The 46th President has named his former senior policy adviser for the Biden-Harris campaign, Indian-American, Mala Adiga as the first lady’s policy director.

Adiga’s prior roles and ambitions make her an ideal candidate to support First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden. Dr. Biden’s goals are to focus on education and military families. As an educator herself, Dr. Biden emphasizes the importance of policy changes reforming schools, free community college education, and placing teachers at the forefront of education policies. She hopes to continue teaching at the community college she has been working at for years as well, making Dr. Biden the first President’s wife to continue her professional career as well as carrying her role as the First Lady.

With a talented and hard-working First Lady like Dr. Biden, Adiga has her work cut out for her. However, the accomplished Indian-American has quite the resume herself.

Previously Mala Adiga was the director of higher education and military families at the Biden Foundation and during the Obama administration, she also served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Academic Programs at the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Adiga has also taken on the role of Chief of Staff for the Secretary of State’s Office of Global Women’s Issues and she has served as Senior Advisor to the Ambassador-at-Large. That’s not all, she was also the Director for Human Rights on the National Security Staff.

Prior to her role within the Obama-Biden campaign in 2008 and later the administration, she was Counsel to the Associate Attorney General in the Department of Justice. The Illinois native was a litigator at Kirkland & Ellis, LLP in Chicago. She also clerked for US District Court Judge Philip Simon. Adiga studied at Grinnell College then went on to get her Master’s degree at The University of Minnesota School of Public Health and finally took on law at the University of Chicago Law School.

The consummate Indian-American has made her small town of Kundapur in the state of Karnataka proud. The citizens of Kundapur and her relatives have been celebrating her success as well as the importance of representation in America. Her relatives report that she is a hard-working young lady who has always held her heritage close. Adiga comes from a family of talented and exemplary individuals as her father, Dr. Ramesh Adiga is a vascular surgeon and her mother Jaya Adiga also studied medicine in Vellore.

Cheers to four years of (hopefully) greatness with Adiga and Dr. Biden changing the face of education in America!
