On today’s Tune-in-Tuesdays we look at some music video tidbits from the world of Bollywood, urban desi, and the global South Asian independent scene all creatively curated just for you! We talk about the music, the artist, some technicalities and help you judge for yourself whether you really need to give it your time on Youtube or not.
1. ‘Tu Phir Se Aana’ RAFTAAR Ft. SALIM MERCHANT & KARMA
When you put two lyrical performing geniuses from the world of Desi Hip Hop on the same beat as one of the finest voices that we have in the Industry – you get a really dope track! Dilin Nair aka Raftaar x Vivek Arora aka Karma feature on Tu Phir Se Aana with Salim Merchant. Raftaar on this takes me back to his track with Nawazuddin Siddiqui for the biopic “Manto.” Straight facts and fire. Karma on the other hand – facts – not so much on the fire. A voice like Salim Merchant’s and a different scene altogether – adds a premium upgrade and a LEVEL UP on the world of desi hip hop. We give Tu Phir Se Aana by RAFTAAR Ft. 2. ‘Husn Hai Suhana New’ – “Coolie No. 1”
Before I even started to play this video. I had to close my eyes and shut my ears as Husn Hai Suhana amongst every single other song of this stature is murdered by us. Well the makers, but us, because we let them. Ok now, Let’s actually watch it! Let me tell you all a story 🙂 The song has NEW in its title. There are air humps in the air – yes, I had to mention air – twice. This looks like Judwa 3 – which is not a good thing. Slapping thighs – he literally slaps her thighs He air sweeps her bosoms and then kisses her and then some very other weird things. He keeps doing things She keeps letting him do it No one stops them. But I stop the video. This is again – all before the song has even started. I was not able to finish it – so the story is done here. . He is the once-promising actor of “Badlapur” She is the daughter of the Nawab of Pataudi and also a genuinely good actor. Govinda, I miss you. We give this 1 wink and you don’t need to check it out on Tips’ Official youtube channel.
3. ‘Ride or Die’ – Ezu
Ezu x Rawr Music x VIP always coming out with bangers back to back and Ride or Die definitely takes it up a notch. Post peeping at the credits on the youtube video – I had a feeling that this was written by Amar Sandhu! US x UK drop – this is super fresh. Ezu’s switch up from Punjabi to English is smooth. Especially towards the second half of the track. Hector Toro – brownie points on keeping me posted till the end of the video – def. Intriguing. But I felt like I did not completely get the end? 4. ‘Adhura’ – Zack Knight
Zack Knight comes back with what he does best. Takes a beautiful track – flavors with some ZK vibes and that’s it. Contrary to his ‘haters’ – this individual makes some real good music and his pronunciation for Hindi and Urdu is getting better track after track. Super simple video – does more than justice to this Lockdown Release. We give Adhura a total of 4 winks and you can find the official video on Zack Knight’s Official youtube channel.
