Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang’s comedy ‘Master of None’ splashed onto the scene in 2015 and the Netflix show bagged numerous awards. The latest buzz is that Ansari is reviving the hit show after a four-year hiatus!
Reports state Netflix began production for the latest season last year prior to the shutdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic, but Netflix has yet to confirm the launch of a season three. Ansari is set to return as Dev Shah, with Eric Wareheim as his friend Arnold and Lena Waithe as his friend, Denise. Bafta award-winning actress Naomi Ackie, known for her role in productions like “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” is rumored to join the cast as well, possibly as Dev Shah’s latest lady love. The latest season is reportedly set in London, England. Let’s hope the friends indulge in some amazing food – hitting one fabulous restaurant after another as they have done in seasons prior. The cast may start shooting soon to finish up production of season three.
‘Master of None’ was an instant hit when it launched in 2015 and even season two which released in 2017. The show took home Emmys in both 2016 and 2017 for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for both seasons. They also won Emmys for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series. Ansari managed to bag the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series, Music or Comedy in 2018.
However, since the story of his sexual misconduct broke in 2018, Ansari has been keeping a low profile. More recently he began rebuilding his career, though he never apologized for the incident, he does state that he “felt terrible that this person felt this way.”
Since the incident Ansari has done much self-reflection and taken measured steps forward in his career, regaining the trust of his fans. He had a stand-up comedy tour in 2019 and released a Netflix special titled ‘Right Now.’ Ansari has proven time and time again that he’s quite a talented individual.
Here’s to hoping season three of ‘Master of None’ reflects the prowess of his skills once again. Stay tuned for more updates on the release!
