Saurav Mahajan aka DJ Bunty has been entertaining the east coast for more than a decade. He has worked alongside celebrity singers & performers. His professional experience has earned him the respect of his peers and his clients, thus making him one of the top event entertainers in the US. On Valentine’s Day he released his debut single, ‘G.O.F Gal On Fleek’.
In an exclusive interview, Saurav Mahajan spoke to us about his journey from being a DJ to becoming a singer, which wasn’t a small one. “I would say and a lot of people influenced me all these years like my guru DJ Ladla who connected me to music at a very young age. All the people who work with me in my entertainment company, my wife, and my parents – who always motivated me to sing and most importantly, listened, when I was singing. So my relationship with music has been a long one.”
“I was going to spin at clubs by the age of 17. So I always had a passion for music and I always wanted to sing, I just didn’t realize till a long time that I wanted to do this at this level. One day it just struck me and I said to myself I have to follow my dream, so here I am with my very first single.”
DissDash – Were your parents supportive of your career as a DJ?
Saurav Mahajan – My parents didn’t really have a choice as I came to this country alone and was going to college while they were still back home. Yes, they were concerned as any parent would be. They supported me DJing but also wanted me to finish college and get a degree. But deep down they had faith in me I guess. They got comfortable with it when they visited me once and saw my hustle every weekend working those gigs and also focusing on my academics.
DissDash – What were some of the challenges you faced?
Mahajan – I won’t call them challenges but experiences that made me who I am today. Working two jobs sometimes, going to school full time & managing my entertainment business. And not having your family around while juggling through all this, especially when you have down moments. One thing few people in my life have taught me is that you need to keep knocking on the door till it opens.

DissDash – Talk to us about ‘Gal On Fleek’ and how did you get into singing?
Mahajan – Singing, as I said, is my passion. I am always singing whether I am working or driving or doing chores at home or anything. Even when I am DJign I am singing almost every track. I am a huge Bollywood 90s music lover. So I wanted to sign a love song and that’s why ‘Gal on Fleek’ is a love song. We recorded the song late in 2019 and were planning to shoot in early 2020 but the pandemic happened and things got delayed. But then one day my director called me and said I am coming to New York in 3 days let’s shoot. So we had to plan to get my outfits and style them in 3 days. My stylist worked overnight making sure it works out. The only thing that was in our favor was that we already knew what concept we were going to shoot, so that helped speed up things in terms of locations and what time of the day to shoot. There are plenty of people I want to thank who came through last minute and made it a successful shoot. Like Raja Singh for lyrics & composition, Ro Hardy for music, Harry Jordan for direction & DOP, Mr. Editor for editing, Ankita Arora as the producer, the stylist Rachna Ahuja, and off-course the record label, Live Life Loud Records.

DissDash – What was the experience like being in front of the camera?
Mahajan – Facing the camera was quite natural as I am used to being the center of attention while DJing. But shooting during a pandemic was a challenge as anyone around you could have symptoms while you are shooting. We took precautions and got tested after the shoot to make sure we were all fine. Also, we were stuck at home for almost 7 months and I felt like I had forgotten how to move to music! (lol) Getting in the rhythm took some time.
DissDash – What’s in store next?
Mahajan – Next, I would say is more singing. I am already working on 2 new tracks one we are recording late this month & the second one I am almost finished writing the track so hopefully will record it in the summer. I am planning to release these tracks in mid-summer and mid-fall of 2021. Like I said I just want to entertain people as I have always done all these years through DJing. Now I want to do it with my vocals and my music.
