Try This Fish Masala For The Best Meal Ever!


This Fish Masala can be made dry and with gravy which is very easy to prepare and it tastes great. I am making semi-gravy Fish Masala, which is extremely delicious and a perfect side dish for rice or roti. If you like dry fish masala, skip the steps for making gravy and enjoy the fried fish with green (coriander or mint) chutney.
Preparation Time: 7 – 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 40 – 45 minutes
Yield: Four servings
Ingredients:
1. One and a quarter pounds of fish (tilapia fillet) – washed and chopped into pieces
2. One big onion – sliced, washed, and drained
3. Two teaspoons of coconut oil
4. One teaspoon of ginger paste
5. Two teaspoons of garlic paste
6. One teaspoon of red chili powder
7. Salt as per taste
8. One teaspoon of garam masala powder
9. One teaspoon of fish curry masala
10. One teaspoon of chaat masala
11. Two teaspoons of jaggery
12. Half teaspoon of Kasuri methi
13. Cilantro to garnish
14. Water as per preference
Marination:
1. Two teaspoon lemon juice
2. Half teaspoon salt or as per taste
3. One teaspoon fish masala powder
4. Half teaspoon of turmeric powder
5. One teaspoon of Kashmiri red chili powder
6. One teaspoon of ginger-garlic paste
7. Half teaspoon of roasted cumin powder
8. Half teaspoon of roasted coriander powder
Mix the fish and all the above ingredients and let fish marinate for thirty minutes
Instructions:
1. Take a pan over a medium-high flame and add oil to it
2. Once the oil is hot, add onions in batches and deep fry them.
3. In the remaining oil (add more oil if needed), add marinated fish
4. Stir fry the fish until turns golden in color and soft
5. Drain the fish on a plate and keep them aside
6. In the remaining oil, add ginger paste and garlic paste, saute for one minute
7. Grind the fried onions to make a paste and add it to the pan
8. Saute for three to five minutes
9. Add red chili powder, salt, garam masala powder, fish curry masala, chaat masala, and mix well
10. Add half a cup of water and roast the spices until water dries
11. Add water and mix well
12. Once the water starts simmering, add the jaggery powder and cook for one minute
13. Add fried fish and cook for five minutes
14. Add Kasuri methi and cook for two minutes
15. Switch off the flame and garnish with cilantro
Tips:
1. Add red chili powder as per your spice level
2. Add more water if you don’t like thick gravy
3. If you don’t like gravy at all, you can enjoy the fried fish with any dip and drink of your choice. For fried fish, follow steps 1,3,4, and 5 from the Instructions above.
