On A Positive Note In 2021 – Pakistan Breaks Stereotypes With First Transgender Beauty Pageant

From brainstorming marketing strategies to curating bewitching blogs to beautifying faces…
We have already seen plenty of twists in 2021, so we are glad Pakistan gave us some good news by organizing its first-ever Transgender Beauty Pageant. Shyraa Roy was recently crowned Miss Trans Pakistan 2021.
Beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, and gender! And Roy isn’t just beautiful but has also been a blessing for Pakistan.
We are in awe after getting to know about her multiple talents. Shyraa Roy is a Dubai-based Pakistani singer, actress, and producer known for playing Sania in “Aks,” Mohini in “Mohenjodaro,” and Natasha in “Saaho.” She has sung music singles like ‘Raat’ and ‘Kamli’ in 2020. Her duet with Mohsin Abbas Haider, “Kamli” has also been selected for screening at Cannes Short Film Festival. Moreover, she has worked as a producer as well as a screenwriter with Hello Shabnam for Amazon Prime.
In an interview with Hello Pakistan, she said, “I’d like to tell all parents to teach their kids to be kind, empathetic towards all human beings and discipline them, so they don’t go out there and bully anyone.”
Transgenders have long been associated with shame, vulgarity, entertainment, and joke in countries like Pakistan. Most trans children are killed at birth and those lucky ones who do manage to survive, are given to the transgender community secretly. They end up begging on the streets, dancing at weddings, and doing whatever they can to make ends meet. The poor beings have never known a better way to earn with pride and respect. They are bullied and shamed all the time. So organizing the Transgender Beauty Pageant is a big achievement for the country.
In Pakistan, where having a transgender child is considered shameful for decades, Roy’s rise to power is a lesson for all. This superhuman broke barriers and stereotypes despite facing hatred, discouragement, and criticism. She has proven that there is no stopping her!

Since Imran Khan came to power, a school for the transgender community was established in Islamabad. The Trans Beauty Pageant 2021 is another ray of hope for this long-oppressed community.
We just hope that the story of Shyraa Roy will inspire the transgender community in Pakistan and make way for more opportunities for them.
