Can’t Keep Calm! We SEE Marvelous Representation In “Eternals”

Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo

The much-awaited trailer of Marvel Studio’s “Eternals” is finally here and we can definitely hear a buzz all around it. We have seen Kumail Nanjiani prepare for this role for over two years and it was a surprise to see Bollywood veteran actor Harish Patel join the crew.

Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao promises a banger of a film with incredible action scenes complemented by substantial South Asian representation and we’re all for it.

Kumail Nanjiani earlier wrote about investing an entire year for a physical transformation and also underwent “months of” training to ace Bollywood-style of dancing. “I took months of Bollywood dance classes to prepare for that. It’s really a workout… and you know, there’s like 52 dancers, and 51 of them are professional dancers, and then there’s me,” he said during the podcast. Talking about the necessity of the dance classes, Kumail Nanjiani revealed he will feature in a dance sequence with as many as 50 other South Asian actors: “I was like, we went from, like, none of us, to so many in one scene.”

The flash of pink lehengas dancing away is something we saw for the first time in a Marvel movie trailer for sure.

Nanjiani plays “Eternals” member Kingo in the film. Kingo has the power to project cosmic energy projectiles with his hands in addition to being a skilled swordsman. Over the centuries that he’s lived, the character is shown to develop a predilection for wealth and fame. In the present day, he is a Bollywood star but he must leave that behind to help his team fight the new threat, the Deviants.

“Eternals” is also being hailed as one of the most diverse films from the MCU to date. Earlier, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had stressed upon increasing diversity in his cinematic universe and seems like the first steps are in the right direction.
