We have five latest music videos from the world of Bollywood, Urban Desi, Punjabi, and the overall global South Asian independent scene all creatively curated just for you by our host Monty Kataria.

Zaruri Nahi – @karmathelekhak x @realkrsna

Karma is a lyrical genius when it comes to Desi Hip Hop. The only issue is that, in ‘Zaruri Nahi’ song the bar seems slightly outdated. It’s dope but it seems like the old track is being released now. Both Karma and Krsna rap hard and they know that they are good at it. But Johny Singh, Yuvraj Singh, 50 Cents we are kind of too done with it. We love listening to Delhi Desi Hip Hop and will be a fan for long time but this track just doesn’t work for us. Well, not everything has to right?

Gaayab – @viepsa x @arjun_sadana

‘Gaayab’ has such a complete and fulfilling vibe. It completes the opposite of the rosy part of relationships. A day in the life of music video with performing shots showcasing the daily is a damn win-win. Arjun Sadana, the music has us floored! Check out the track on Viepsa’s YouTube channel.

Te Amo – @kamal_raja x @ayo.bofficialx

Moving from Indian Bollywood music to urban Desi independent music from the Hague. It is by Pakistani, Mongolian, Dutch singer songwriter Kamal Raja who performs in Punjabi, English, Urdu and Spanish. We spoke to him about the new song and about the feel of Hawaiian and Spanish in it. He says, “I want to do something else, when everybody else is doing the same kind of music. I wanted to introduce some new vibes, so that is why I use different influences in my song. I want to try what is going to work.” This song has come from a time when Raja was in Columbia and saw some street parties, clubbing and couldn’t forget the vibe. He spoke to his producer and that’s how came up with this track.

Jyada Jachdi – @jordansandhu x @gurlejakhtarmusic

To be honest, if we hadn’t known of Jordan Sandhu and Gurlej Akhtar’s name, we wouldn’t have even listened to the song. But one more song on Jatt this and Jatt that, no no. We don’t have any problem with any caste but its time to move on from this. Punjabi songs and Bhangra music influences millions, so can we please do better? The video is also the same old pattern with nothing new to offer. It has same old slow-mo shots of smiling, eve-teasing, stalking, male toxicity mixed up.

Zaalima Coca Cola – Shreya Ghoshal feat. @norafatehi x @tanishk_bagchi

We are kind of trying to figure this out. ‘Zaalima and Coco Cola’ in title, then we have Shreya Ghoshal on vocals, Nora Fatehi as a performer, Vayu as a writer and Tanishk as the producer and T-series as the godparent releasing this track. For some reason, the song is satisfying and it is not just because of Nora. If you search for ‘Coco Cola Piya De,’ you get to the old song, the original bliss. And we kind of like it.
