19-year-old Akshay Bhatia, made history last week by winning the Korn Ferry Tour Championship – becoming the third youngest and the first-ever South Asian player to do so. He achieved the stellar feat, just 12 days short of his 20th birthday. We are expecting a grand celebration over this weekend for sure!!

1. Skipped College To Go Pro
Bhatia skimmed over college and became a professional golfer at the age of 17. He never liked sitting in a classroom (😏). He enjoyed being outside and playing golf. That doesn’t mean he believes college to be a bad thing. Instead, he decided to direct his focus on practicing golf and competing in various events.
2. Inspired By His Sister
Akshay Bhatia was a little child when he first saw his elder sister, Rhea Bhatia swinging a golf club. She eventually became a 2015 4A Regional Champion during her high school years. She was also a member of the women’s team at the Queen’s University of Charlotte.
3. Worst Ever Debut Pro Year
Bhatia started his professional career in September 2019. But he missed the cut in every one of his six PGA Tour events. When the world was hit by the pandemic, everyone was going through a tough time. Fortunately, this gave him a reason to sit down and figure out his next steps with his coach. Since then, there has been no looking back. Bhatia’s latest victory guarantees him a PGA Tour card for the next year.
4. Kudos To Social Media For Finding Love
This season, Akshay was caddied by his girlfriend Presleigh Schultz and he was all praises for her throughout. After his tremendous winning run, we bet he would continue with Schultz as his caddie. Bhatia had blindly DM’d her on Instagram last year during the Valero Texas Open and guess what? – that’s how they met!
5. What’s Next? – Win The PGA Tour
Akshay Bhatia no longer needs to worry about his chances of qualification as a member of PGA. He believes he has just climbed a mountain. So, he is choosing to keep it slow and steady. But he believes, he will surely get there.
