Following her lead role in the award-winning comedy “India Sweets and Spices,” South Asian-American actress Sophia Ali is making a big Hollywood splash this weekend starring in the action-adventure “Uncharted” along with “Spiderman” fame Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. Ali is the lead actress of this globe-trotting film from Sony Pictures and plays Chloe Frazer, a treasure hunter in a race to find a $5 billion fortune, which releases exclusively in theaters tomorrow across North America.
In the movie, street-smart Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to recover a fortune amassed by Ferdinand Magellan and lost 500 years ago by the House of Moncada. What starts as a heist job for the duo becomes a globe-trotting, white-knuckle race to reach the prize before the ruthless Santiago Moncada (Antonio Banderas), who believes he and his family are the rightful heirs. If Nate and Sully can decipher the clues and solve one of the world’s oldest mysteries, they stand to find $5 billion in treasure and perhaps even Nate’s long-lost brother, but only if they can learn to work together.
The film has been in the works for a while, and Mark Wahlberg was originally set to play Tom Holland’s role of Drake himself back in 2010 when work on the adaptation began. “Uncharted” is based on one of the best-selling video game series of all time of the same name.
The movie also stars Antonio Banderas as Moncada and Tati Gabrielle as Braddock.
Excited about “Uncharted” Sophia Ali wrote on her social media, “Say the word and I will show up torch in hand—and guide you to the theater myself.”
The Sony Pictures film just opened at #1 in the UK and releases in theaters across North America, India, and several other markets this Friday, February 18th with special previews beginning on Thursday, February 17th.
