Indira Varma and Kumail Nanjiani are bringing some much-needed color to the cast of Disney+’s latest project, “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” If you don’t want to know the details, stop right now because boy do we have spoilers!
“Obi-Wan Kenobi” is a special event series on Disney+ that takes place 10 years after “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.” When we last saw Obi-Wan he faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned into the evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.
Varma and Nanjiani play new characters in this galaxy far far away. The news thus far is that Varma is playing an Imperial Officer that is a double agent! Varma’s character is looking to oppose the Sith’s control of the Empire setting her up against Palpatine and Darth Vader. Nanjiani will play a “Hans-Solo type” character and though initially, he may seem a little sketchy there is more to him than you think. Nanjiani will be teaming up with Kenobi and O’Shea Jackson Jr.’s character, a humanitarian Jabiim. The show will see the return of Ewan McGregor as the iconic Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader.
Varma and Nanjiani are both worthy additions to the iconic Star Wars universe. Varma is a British actress of Indian and Italian descent. She graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and has a resume including films like “Kama Sutra” and “Bride and Prejudice,” television shows such as BBC’s “Luther” and “Bones,” and even theater. Varma also played Ellaria Sand in the hit HBO series, “Game of Thrones.” Nanjiani is a Pakistani-American actor, comedian, writer, and producer who has slowly risen from stand-up comic and “Silicon Valley” IT guy to Marvel superhero in just a few years. He has written, produced, and starred in one hit film after another such as “The Big Sick,” “The Lovebirds,” “Stuber,” “The Eternals,” and more.
