Michelin Star-chef Vikas Khanna has collaborated with NFT marketplace Akshaya.io and launched his first ‘phygital’ limited-edition book ‘Sacred Foods of India’. After the grand event for it in Dubai, the team released the physical and digital cookbook at the Indian Consulate in New York.
The term ‘phygital’ implies that the book will be available to purchase in both physical and NFT formats. Its first unit was bought by Mr. Sanjeh Raja from ICCA (International Centre of Culinary) at a price of $50,000.
‘Sacred Foods of India’ brings recipes of prasad and foods served at various holy places around the country. It can be ordered from the Akshaya website, and the NFT of the book will be minted immediately along with its “digital twin”.
The American launch of ‘Sacred Foods of India’ was celebrated in honor of the 75th anniversary of India’s independence at the Indian Consulate in New York on Tuesday, August 23, 2022. The attendees included the likes of Dr. Deepak Chopra, a globally renowned proponent of health and wellness, and author of numerous books, Ganesh Raju from Akshaya.io, and many others.
The event, hosted by Consul General Randhir Jaiswal, featured speeches from dignitaries, and a display of the cookbook and contributions by the Indian Diaspora to the world.
Just a few months back, Vikas Khanna had put the spotlight on the rights and empowerment of widows and spoke “in honor of the widows of India and around the world” at a special event on June 21st at Capitol Hill to commemorate International Widows Day.
Khanna has been dedicated to the cause of widows’ dignity and empowerment since 2011 and his book ‘The Last Color’ and namesake film starring Neena Gupta focuses on the life and plight of widows in the ancient Indian city of Banaras.
The critically-acclaimed film was screened at the UN and won several international awards.
