Lilly Singh has made a birthday wish, and it is something that will benefit the lives of countless girls. Ahead of her birthday on September 26, Singh started her non-profit called the Unicorn Island Fund. She has now urged all her fans and followers to start raising money to champion the cause of girls’ rights and education. The funds collected through this will provide grants to organizations that support girls’ education. From September 19 to September 26, Singh will match dollar for dollar up to $34,000.
Lilly Singh has made tremendous contributions and advocated support to numerous social causes over the past few years. Ever since the start of her career, she has advocated for gender equality and has now taken this full-blown form to support the cause with help of others. Singh will turn 34 next week and in lieu of birthday gifts, she wants people to donate to her cause. She has posted the link to the donation on her social accounts. On the International Day of the Girl, she will be announcing the grants to organizations helping to change how girls are seen, heard, and valued.
Unicorn Island Fund’s work will be centered on the belief of changing the narrative and believing in the power of stories to change culture, advance equity, and transform the way the world sees and values people. It will focus on people who have not been represented or underestimated for too long. As Singh says in the video, it is about helping girls around the world, for their voices to be heard, giving them equal opportunities, and so on. Lilly Singh has inspired several girls and women through her journey from a YouTuber to a late-night show host. She was even appointed the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 2017.
She created the #GirlLove initiative to break the cycle of girl-on-girl hate and bullying. For one, Lilly Singh has always been vocal about supporting different issues that matter, be it supporting farmers’ protests or fat shaming in the industry. Singh continues to entertain her millions of fan following through her videos and content and will now be utilizing the support to change the lives of girls all over the world.
