Mindy Kaling’s “Never Have I Ever” is getting a hot new character, Nirdesh aka “Des,” played by Anirudh Pisharody.
Pisharody’s character is a talented, over-achieving student who attends an elite private school. The show’s Instagram page describes the character as “the full package.” Where Pisharody’s character fits into the scheme of things is still under wraps, but he is definitely here to shake things up in Devi’s life and challenge her intelligence. Des will be a recurring character in a few episodes in season 3. Rumors also hint at a blossoming romantic relationship between Devi and Paxton and an improving relationship between Devi and her mother.
Along with Maitrayi Ramakrishnan as Devi, Poorna Jagannathan, Darren Barnet, Jaren Lewison, Richa Moorjani, Ramona Young and Lee Rodriguez also star in “Never Have I Ever.” The show has been hailed for its diversity and for breaking many South Asian-related stereotypes. It is a coming-of-age show that resonates with not just millions of American-raised South Asian children, but other minorities as well because we’ve all had to balance a hyphenated identity.
Ramakrishnan is a natural on-screen and effortlessly plays the bright but hot-tempered Devi as she maneuvers through high school drama while struggling with the sudden death of her father. As the first show to truly portray a modern-day first-generation Indian-American teenager, it caught the attention of millions.
What’s more, it was recently announced that Maitrayi Ramakrishnan will receive a special Canadian Screen Awards honor to recognize her impact on global TV audiences.
We can’t wait to see Pisharody join this talented cast. The young star currently plays firefighter Ravi Panikkar on Fox Television’s “9-1-1.” He was also in shows like “The Goldbergs,” “Last Man Standing,” and “SEAL Team.”
The stars are currently shooting season three of “Never Have I Ever.” Stay tuned for more updates right here!
