American actor and former White House staff member in the Barack Obama administration, Kal Penn is taking on a new role. The “Harold and Kumar” actor is set to host a new Food Network original show titled, ‘Money Hungry.’
The cooking competition is a collaboration between Penn and the popular ice cream manufacturers, Ben & Jerry’s. ‘Money Hungry’ is an ultimate test of tastebuds as talented chefs, critics, cookbook authors and amateur chefs compete to win $50,000 in the high stakes show. This is a five-episode show where contestants engage in complex tasting challenges that test their culinary knowledge and senses. There are 60-second rapid-fire tastings where contestants identify ingredients and proceed to increasingly challenging levels. Each episode will include two guest judges that provide “flavor favors” a limited lifeline for contestants and those who survive their tastings take home $50,000!
“I am obsessed with the ways in which food tells stories, so hosting Money Hungry is a lot of fun,” Penn said in a statement released by the Food Network. “The culinary knowledge and amazing palates of the competitors was so impressive — I learned a lot and am excited for viewers to see all the action.”
Aside from his new Food Network original show, Penn is also working to release his first book titled “You Can’t be Serious.” The book is set to release November 2, 2021. (True to his style, Kal Penn has been promoting his book with pretty interesting posts that are sure to make everyone smirk).
The dust cover reads, “In this refreshingly candid memoir, Kal Penn recounts why he rejected the advice of his aunties and guidance counselors and, instead of becoming a doctor or “something practical,” embarked on a surprising journey that has included acting, writing, working as a farmhand, teaching Ivy League University courses, and smoking fake weed with a fake President of the United States, before serving the country and advising a real one.”
He’s also working on the CBS show, “Clarice.”
